Emory Snapshot: Myron Thomas, 32, receives the silver medal for the softball throw during the Summer Games of the Special Olympics, held May 31–June 3 on the Emory campus. Thomas was one of 1,600 athletes who participated in the games, which began in 1970 as a track and field event for children and adults with mental disablities. Since then, it has grown into a three-day event with swimming, soccer, table tennis, volleyball and other sporting events. All competitors—regardless of how they finish—receive a medal.
