PCSW preparing for Spring Event in April

By Stephanie Sonnenfeld ssonnen@emory.edu

The President’s Commission on the Status of Women (PCSW) met March 7 at 3:30 p.m. in 400 Administration. Members approved funding for the commission’s annual Spring Event, to be held April 18 at 7:30 p.m. in the Law School’s Tull Auditorium. Frances Smith-Foster, director of the Institute for Women’s Studies and Charles Howard Candler Professor of English, will be the guest speaker. Food will be served prior to and after the event, where PCSW’s annual writing contest awards will be presented. Cost to attend is $5.

Anne Kelly from the faculty concerns committee said there is still no data for its tenure study from the School of Medicine, but the committee will meet with school administration later this month to discuss the issue.

Amy Wheeler from staff concerns said the alternative work arrangements committee is preparing a presentation for Human Resources, and the group’s mentoring program is gearing up for its initial run later this semester.

In other business, members discussed forming a team for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event on April 19 at North Druid Hills High School. A team of 12 to 15 participants would need to donate $10 and raise $100 each. Interested members should contact Jessica Boar at jboar@law.emory.edu.

The PCSW holds its meetings on the first Thursday of each month at 3:30 p.m. in 400 Administration. Its next meeting will be April 4.
