Bond, Keyes analyze 'race' in today's America: Alan Keyes (left) and Julian Bond shared the Glenn Auditorium stage on Feb. 27 to discuss “The State of Race” in America. With Keyes a two-time Republican presidential candidate and Bond a lifelong Democrat, some in attendance may have expected fireworks, but the two men demonstrated tremendous respect and even deference to each other during the two-hour event. The Office of International Affairs hosted its second annual International Awards Night on Feb. 19, giving out two awards to individuals who have helped make Emory a more international university. This year’s winners were former Korean ambassador to the United States Hong Koo Lee, ’59C, who took home the inaugural Sheth Distinguished International Alumni Award; and Kenneth Stein, Schatten Professor of Contemporary Middle Eastern History and Israeli Studies, who won the Marion Creekmore Award.
