Employee Council elects officers for 2003-04

By Eric Rangus

Employee Council elected officers for the 2003–04 academic year at its most recent meeting, April 16 in the Gambrell Hall’s Agnor Room.

Susie Lackey from Yerkes was chosen to be the council’s president-elect. Other officers elected were: Laurie Asherman (secretary), Rosalind Staib (secretary-elect), Gail Mooney (parliamentarian), Julia Leon (treasurer) and Chris Gabriel (historian). Their terms will begin in September.

Lackey, chair of the communications committee, passed out flyers on the council’s upcoming information fair to be held in the VA Medical Center on Tuesday, April 29, from
11 a.m.–2 p.m. More than 24 tables, sponsored by campus organizations, departments and outside vendors, will be set up in the VA’s first-floor main chapel. All employees are invited to attend, and the event is free of charge.

Two guest speakers took the podium. Director of Corporate Giving Michelle Smith spoke about the volunteer component of EmoryGives, which includes volunteer events through the summer. Mary Smith of Human Resources discussed ways to improve communication with employees.

The next Employee Council meeting will be held Wednesday, May 21, at 2 p.m. in the Jones Room of Woodruff Library.
