During its April 22 meeting, members of the President’s
Commission on the Status of Minorities (PCSM) revisited pertinent
business and celebrated a year of accomplishments.
Chair Nagueyalti Warren presented members of the conference planning
committee (who organized the March 3–5 “Diversity As
Value Added” symposium) with glass plaques. She praised all
members for their hard work throughout the year. Warren and Brenda
Nix, PCSM secretary, both received roses from commission members
as thanks for their work.
In other business, Pam Denzmore of the staff concerns committee
said its survey measuring diversity among Emory staff should be
ready to administer by the end of May. Warren has written a letter
to other president’s commissions chairs explaining and encouraging
participation in the survey. Denzmore also added that John Hammond
is working on a web version of the survey.
Sylvester Hopewell of the historical records committee said members
reviewed and compiled minutes from the last 10 years and will continue
the project with additional archives from previous years. Donna
Wong, liaison to the President’s Commission on the Status
of Women (PCSW), reported that PCSW members were impressed with
PCSM’s list of Board of Trustee (BOT) nominees and will form
a subcommittee among its own members to also provide nominations.
PCSM also reviewed its list of BOT nominations and revised a list
of nominees for the Board of Visitors.
PCSM will meet again on Tuesday, May 27, in 400 Administration at
3 p.m.
