Chemistry to host faculty workshop
The chemistry department will host a faculty workshop, Feb. 7–8, focused on innovations in teaching science to college students.

The National Science Foundation-sponsored workshop will bring together faculty from throughout the Southeast to discuss and learn about ways to create an active learning environment in lecture courses, use writing assignments to measure content depth, convert traditional laboratory exercises into guided-inquiry experiments, and use technology as a learning tool among other activities.

Emory’s chemistry department is already ahead of the game in this area. It has a peer-led team learning initiative called ChemMentors.

For more information contact Preetha Ram at 404-727-6668.

Research grants of up to $25,000 a year are available to faculty in the School of Medicine through the Emory Medical Care Foundation (ECMF). To be eligible, faculty must spend at least 50 percent of their time in the Grady Health System.

The deadline for applications is March 1. For more information, contact Wanda Willis at 404-727-3264 or visit www.emory.edu/WHSC/MED/RESEARCH/INFORMATION/emcf.html.
