James Wagner named Emory president: James Wagner, provost of Case Western Reserve University, was named Emory’s 19th president after a special meeting of the University’s Board of Trustees, held July 30. Wagner, whose appointment concludes an eight-month, national search following the retirement announcement of President Bill Chace, will arrive in time for the beginning of Emory’s fall semester. Postcards from the past: On display through Aug. 15 in Woodruff Library’s Special Collections is “Postcards from the Campus,” an exhibit of vintage views of scenes and landmarks from Emory’s three campuses—yes, in addition to its Oxford and Atlanta campuses, Emory once operated a two-year arts and sciences junior college in Valdosta. The school suspended operations during World War II and closed permanently in 1953, and the campus now is part of Valdosta State University. According to University Archivist Ginger Cain, many of the exhibit’s postcards were donated by Harry Rusche, professor of English. Additional cards (such as the above image of Glenn Memorial Church) came from other individuals and personal papers housed within Special Collections.
