Carter lays down challenge for law: Former President Jimmy Carter (left) and church scholar Martin Marty, Robert W. Woodruff Visiting Professor of Interdisciplinary Religious Studies, share a lighter moment during their conversation about “What Happens to Children in Peril?,” the second installment of the Family Forum Series, 2003-04, sponsored by the Center for the Interdisciplinary Study of Religion. Light moments, however, were not the norm as Carter challenged law students and law schools to take on activist roles in their pursuit of justice for children in the American court system and in the developing world. Thanks to a gift from an anonymous donor, famed minimalist artist Sol Lewitt now has a presence on campus. This 2002 piece, “Tower With Vertical Blocks 1,” constructed of white concrete blocks, recently was installed outside White Hall. Art history Associate Professor James Meyer toured the campus personally with LeWitt and helped choose the site. Photo by Jon Rou.
