Wagner joins ranks of 'spirits' of Emory lawn: President Jim Wagner had reason to smile April 2 as he was inaugurated as Emory’s 19th president in a two-hour ceremony that capped a week of festivities. Surrounded by family, friends, colleagues, students, mentors and mentees, both old and new, Wagner received the badge of office from Board of Trustees Chair Ben Johnson. Georgia Gov. Sonny Perdue, Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and former President Jimmy Carter, along with others, bore greetings to commemorate the occasion, and the ceremony was attended by some 218 delegates from colleges, universities and learned societies around the world.
