4th District hopefuls appear in Glenn:
On Wednesday, June 23, the six Democrats running for the U.S. House of Representatives from Georgia’s 4th District participated in a forum in Glenn Auditorium (the Republican candidate, Catherine Davis, was unable to attend), sponsored by the DeKalb County Chamber of Commerce. From left, Liane Levetan, Cynthia McKinney, Connie Stokes, Nadine Thomas, Cathy Woolard and Chris Vaughn fielded questions from FOX5 investigative reporter Dale Russell, who moderated the forum, and from the audience. While heavy rains and lightning raged outside Glenn, the weather inside was more peaceful, as the candidates were forbidden from making personal attacks and asked to stick to the issues and their personal qualifications. One swimming champion meets another, as Mark Spitz, winner of seven gold medals at the 1972 Summer Olympics, poses with Emory junior Holly Hinz, winner of the 500-yard freestyle event at the 2004 NCAA Div. III national championships in March. With a time of 4:58.31, Hinz became just the seventh Emory woman ever to win an individual NCAA swimming crown. She also placed second in the 400-yard individual medley, posting a time of 4:30.25. Both the women’s and men's teams finished second in the team standings. Spitz was in Atlanta to promote a business venture. Photo by Jon Rou.
