2009 faculty awards

The Emory Williams Award for Distinguished Teaching is the University’s most prestigious awards for teaching, established in 1972 by alumnus Emory Williams. Presented with awards at their school diploma ceremonies were:

  • Donald Tuten, associate professor of Spanish, Emory College of Arts and Sciences
  • Randall W. Strahan, professor of political science, Emory College of Arts and Sciences
  • Tracy Morkin, lecturer in chemistry, Emory College of Arts and Sciences
  • Brenda B. Harmon, senior lecturer in chemistry, Oxford College
  • Robert A. Schapiro, professor of law, School of Law
  • Klaas Baks, associate professor of finance, Goizueta Business School
  • Carol A. Newsom, Charles Howard Candler Professor of Old Testament, Candler School of Theology
  • Deborah A. McFarland, associate professor of health policy and management, Rollins School of Public Health
  • William McDonald, J.B. Fuqua Chair in Late-Life Depression, School of Medicine
  • Elizabeth Downes, clinical assistant professor of nursing, Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing

The faculty teaching awards are given out by individual schools.

  • Excellence in Teaching: John Blevins, visiting assistant professor of pastoral care
  • Faculty Person of the Year: John Blevins, visiting assistant professor of pastoral care

Emory College

  • Center for Teaching and Curriculum for Excellence in Teaching: Joachim Kurtz, assistant professor, Chinese; Joseph Crespino, associate professor of history

Goizueta Business School

  • Mark F. Adler Prize for Excellence in Teaching: Shehzad Mian, associate professor of finance
  • Donald R. Keough Awards for Excellence: Clifton Green, associate professor of finance; and Barbara Maaskant, associate dean for information technology, and chief information officer.
  • Modular MBA Distinguished Educator Award: Shehzad Mian, associate professor of finance
  • Weekend MBA Distinguished Educator Award: Shehzad Mian, associate professor of finance
  • Evening MBA Distinguished Educator Awards: Kristy Towry, associate professor of accounting; Patrick Noonan, associate professor in the practice of decision & information analysis
  • Full Time MBA Teaching Excellence Awards: Gary Hecht, assistant professor of accounting; Ray Hill, assistant professor in the practice of finance
  • BBA Distinguished Educator Award: Allison Burdette, assistant professor in the practice of business law; Clifton Green, associate professor of finance

Rollins School of Public Health

  • Thomas F. Sellers Jr. Award: Roger Rochat, professor of global health
  • Professor of the Year: Kate Winskell, assistant professor of global health 

School of Law

  • Most Outstanding Professor: Dorothy Brown, professor of law
