February is Black History Month
To celebrate Black History month, February features film, discussions, lectures and more.
Founders Week events kick off the month, from a Transforming Community Project anniversary celebration on Feb. 2 at 6:30 p.m. in Cannon Chapel to a panel discussion looking at “30 Years of Student Advocacy: History of the Office of Multicultural Programs” on Feb. 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Dobbs University Center.
Other highlights:
On Feb. 4 at 4:30 p.m. in the Woodruff Library’s Jones Room, University of Michigan professor Jonathan Metzl will focus on mental disease in the black community in “The Protest Psychosis: How Schizophrenia Became a Black Disease.”
TCP and OMPS will host a Black History Lunch and Learn session, "Emory and the Founding of Paine College: Education, Methodism, and the Maintenance of Racial Order” by TCP postdoctoral fellow Andrew Urban on Feb. 16 at 11:30 a.m. in Harland Cinema.
On Feb. 26, Black Students Association and the Caucus of Emory Black Alumni host the Black History Month Ball from 8 p.m. in the Miller Ward Alumni House.
A worship service in Cannon Chapel will conclude the month’s events. The Feb. 28, 11 a.m. service led by Joseph L. Roberts, the senior pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, is sponsored by Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
