Will Emory stack up in RecycleMania?

The return of RecycleMania, the 10-week recycling competition for universities across the nation, has 598 institutes for higher learning scrambling to find reusable trash.

RecycleMania is in its fifth year, and Emory and other universities are challenging each other to see who can increase recycling awareness and participation on campus by students and staff.

“The contest is a way to introduce some of the Emory community to our recycling and waste reduction efforts and to remind people to be mindful of their waste production,” says Claire Wall, Emory Recycles administrative program coordinator.

Emory is vying in the Competition Division.

“We are targeting white paper this year in the targeted materials category. Our goal is to recycle more white paper since that is Emory’s most valuable commodity,” says Wall.

The friendly competition started Jan. 17 and runs through March 27. Track Emory’s weekly progress at www.recyclemaniacs.org
