Reformation Day celebrates milestone

This year’s Reformation Day at Emory on Tuesday, Oct. 19 celebrates the 1,000th imprint to the Pitts Theology Library’s Richard C. Kessler Reformation Collection.

“Luther as Author” is the theme for the 23rd annual observance by the Candler School of Theology.

One of the largest collections of 16th century Protestant Reformation materials, Pitts’ Kessler Collection contains more than 3,400 pieces written by German theologian Martin Luther, father of the Protestant Reformation.

Programs include lectures, musical presentations, and worship, culminating in an evening concert that features the performance of "God Is a Light and a Shield.”

The guest lecturer will be Luther specialist Mark U. Edwards, a Harvard Divinity School historian who will speak on “Martin Luther and the West’s First Mass Media Campaign.”

All events are free and open to the public.
