Offering insights into Taiwanese gender politics
Taiwanese writer Li Ang will speak on “Writing Sex and Politics in Taiwan,” Thursday, Oct. 28, at 4 p.m. in White Hall.
Beginning her writing career at 16, she has published approximately 20 novels and short story collections on gender politics in contemporary Taiwanese social life, feminism and gender, sex, female subjectivity and other related topics. Her broaching of these topics has bordered on the taboo within Taiwan’s cultural context.
The event, which is free and open to the public, is sponsored by the Department of Russian and East Asian Languages and Cultures, women’s studies, the creative writing program and the Taiwanese American Student Association.
