Take Note

Dowman Drive entrance to campus closed

As part of DeKalb County’s construction of the roundabout and streetscapes in Emory Village, vehicular access to campus via Dowman Drive will close beginning Sunday, Nov. 21. Emory expects that Dowman Drive will reopen by the first week in January, and possibly earlier.

North Oxford Road will remain open during this phase of construction, so access to the Oxford Road Building Parking Deck via the North Oxford Road entrance will continue. Fishburne Drive via Clifton Road will not be impacted and provides an alternative route to the Fishburne Parking Deck.

Pedestrian access will continue across North Decatur and North Oxford roads. Emory’s shuttle system will not be affected.

Overall, the roadway and sidewalk improvements continue in Emory Village. Earlier this month, new sidewalks, curbs and streetscapes were added in Emory Village on the south side of North Decatur Road.  Similar upgrades are now being added on the north side of North Decatur Road.

All businesses are open during construction.

The construction currently under way near Emory’s main entrance will develop the first section of roadway for the new Village roundabout.  A later phase of construction, likely early in 2011, will necessitate the temporary closure of South Oxford Road (near the former BP gas station site) for approximately 60 days.

The entire project is scheduled for completion in June.
