Sole Food celebrates shoe drive

Sole Food, a celebration lunch on Thursday, Dec. 2, at Candler School of Theology, highlights a week-long effort to collect shoes for residents of Haiti.

The Candler Social Concerns Network is collecting the shoes during the first week of Advent, Nov. 29-Dec. 3, particularly for the people of La Gonave Island.

Shoes, including dress shoes for church, work shoes, walking shoes and any in good condition for children or adults, can be dropped off in Cannon Chapel any time during the week.

Services at the chapel that week offer special opportunities to donate.

The Sole Food lunch is at noon, following a chapel service.  A $10 per person donation to offset student-funded food costs is being requested.

Non-Candler guests are asked to RSVP at solefoodlunch@gmail.com for the lunch by Sunday, Nov. 28, to ensure enough food will be available.

The Religion and Public Health Collaborative, the Office of Worship, Covenant Presbyterian Church of Atlanta, and the Candler Office of Contextual Education are collaborating in the shoe collection effort.
