Emory fills ranks in Peace Corps

Emory is 15th among medium-sized colleges and universities as a source of volunteers for the Peace Corps. Last year's ranking of "Top Peace Corps Volunteer Producing Colleges and Universities" placed Emory 25th.

The federal program founded in 1961 in the John F. Kennedy administration celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.

"Today, 32 of your talented undergraduate alumni are representing our country abroad by serving as Peace Corps Volunteers," Peace Corps director Aaron Smith said in a letter to President Jim Wagner.

Smith also noted Emory's support of the Masters International program at the Rollins School of Public Health, which provides training for future Peace Corps volunteers.

More than 400 Emory alumni have joined the Peace Corps since its inception.
