Reduce to win is RecycleMania goal

It's the time of year when gathering campus waste can create champions. With assistance from Emory Recycles, the entire campus will participate in the seventh annual RecycleMania competition, a 10-week contest to promote waste reduction on college campuses.

From Feb. 6 to April 2, Emory and 571 other schools will compete to determine a recycling champion in one of four contests and targeted materials challenges. Visit recyclemaniacs.org to see the RecycleMania rules and more.

Emory's involvement in the annual competition "anticipates increasing participation by students and staff in all of Emory's recycling programs with a heightened awareness of our waste management and recycling initiatives," says Deena Keeler, assistant director of auxiliary services.

How can you help? Before throwing something in a trash bin, determine if it can be recycled and put it in the appropriate bin provided by Emory Recycles.

"It all adds up," says Keeler.
