FSAP surveys employee well-being, future needs

The Faculty Staff Assistance Program celebrates 25 years by, among other efforts, launching an all-employee survey "to get an overall baseline of the general health of our employees," says Robin Huskey, manager of education and outreach at FSAP.

Distributed on Feb. 28 and open for three weeks, the 2011 Health and Wellness Survey will also give FSAP information on its services and program interests for the future.

"This confidential survey, which is being offered to all faculty, physicians and staff of Emory University and Emory Healthcare, takes approximately 10 minutes to complete. Participation is completely voluntary," Huskey says.

FSAP will use the survey to provide:

• Information on the general health and wellness, both physical and emotional, of Emory's workforce;

• Insight on areas for prevention;

• Guidance for developing and delivering programs; and

• Data on whether or not FSAP services and programs accurately meet employee needs and interests.

The University and Emory Healthcare were recently named the fourth healthiest employer in Atlanta.

"One way employees can help Emory become the No. 1 Healthiest Employer is by completing the survey to provide feedback about their health and their interest in wellness services," Huskey says.

"Help us enhance our services to help you stay healthy, physically and mentally," she adds.

FSAP also plans to launch a new website later this month.

Started in 1986, FSAP provides employee assistance services to faculty, staff, physicians and their immediate family members in these areas:

• Behavioral mental health, which includes counseling; assessment for alcohol, anger, anxiety, depression, domestic or intimate partner violence; parenting consultation; grief and loss support groups;

• Education and outreach, which includes workshops on exercise, nutrition, managing stress and managing workplace changes;

• Health promotion and wellness, which includes coaching for wellness, fitness and nutrition; smoking cessation; and health screenings; and

• Organizational dynamics, which includes team building; change management; leadership coaching; mediation; and organizational assessments .
