Emory a host for an Apple conference

Emory will be the regional site of AcademiX 2011, a nationwide Apple-sponsored conference on education and technology. The event, taking place April 29, is billed as a showcase of how mobile devices and Apple's iOS operating system are transforming education.

Among the topics to be discussed are: Piloting innovative mobile programs in academia; supporting iPads across different departments; and how students are using iPads as their primary tool.

The eight 20-minute presentations will be broadcast to Northeastern University, The Ohio State University Medical Center, San Diego State University, and here at the Emory Conference Center Hotel.

Shannon O'Daniel, Emory's iTunes U administrator, helped bring Academix 2011 to the University. "This is a great opportunity for faculty, staff and students to see firsthand how others are using mobile and social media for research and teaching," she says.  “Also, of interest to our medical faculty and staff is a component on ‘how mobility can deliver better education and patient care.'"

Registration is free. Those unable to attend can watch and interact via a live webcast.

Visit the Academix 2011 website to register and to see the full list of panelists and topics.
