Blackboard-OPUS integration ready May 9

University Technology Services (UTS) is nearing completion of a yearlong project to integrate aspects of the Blackboard Learning Management System with course and enrollment data from PeopleSoft OPUS.

OPUS Courses in Blackboard

Beginning Monday, May 9, all OPUS courses will feed into Blackboard automatically and appear in Blackboard as created course "shells." Summer courses appear in Blackboard on May 9 and fall courses populate on June 1.

Semester course shells will continue to autopopulate. Student enrollments are included in this process.

The constant and near real-time link between OPUS and Blackboard means changes to OPUS courses and enrollments are reflected in Blackboard almost instantly.

Faculty no longer have to request creation of courses or student enrollment, except in the cases where they would like to develop content more than one semester in advance of when a course is offered.

Easier course management

A new tab in Blackboard called the Extended Control Panel (XCP) will allow faculty to combine course sections, request an iTunes U site or request a development site.

Future development includes the addition of features to allow faculty to separate and delete courses themselves. UTS Business Systems and Integration teams developed this tool over the past year. UTS Faculty Services will soon offer training on the new XCP tool through Emory’s Center for Interactive Teaching.
