Emory's hospitals rank tops

Emory University Hospital ranked first and Emory University Hospital Midtown ranked fourth among all Atlanta metropolitan hospitals in U.S. News & World Report's first Best Hospitals metro area rankings.

Top-ranked Emory University Hospital is an annual mainstay of the guide to best hospitals, ranking among the top medical centers across the entire country, and this past year boasting 11 ranked specialties.

The new rankings recognize 622 hospitals in or near major cities with a record of high performance in key medical specialties; 132 of the 152 hospitals already identified as being among the best in the nation.

U.S. News & World Report ranked hospitals within all 52 U.S. metro areas with populations of 1 million or more, using existing data from 2010-11 Best Hospitals. To be ranked in its metro area, a hospital had to score in the top 25 percent among its peers in at least one of 16 medical specialties.

"When our physicians, nursing staff and employees at Emory Healthcare come to work each day, it is with the expectation of being the best in the business in terms of providing the safest, most compassionate and cutting-edge care, with the highest outcomes and unrivaled patient satisfaction scores. And peer-based recognition such as this certainly demonstrates our collaborative approach to providing care," says Emory Healthcare President and CEO John Fox.

"It is this drive and determination to make good on our promises to the metro Atlanta community – and ourselves - that positions us to attain such noteworthy accolades."
