Farmers Market features summer favorites in three events

The Emory Farmers Market features special season-oriented events this summer.

On Tuesday, June 21, sample homemade peach ice cream and sign up to win an electric ice cream maker at the market's second annual Ice Cream Social.

Ice cream samples feature Georgia-grown peaches from Lane Southern Orchards.

Join in churning the peach ice cream using an old-fashioned hand-crank ice cream maker and sign up for the raffle to win the electric version.

Scoops of homemade vanilla ice cream will be for sale with topping choices including peach, strawberry and blueberry.  Miles Berry Farm will supply the strawberries and blueberries.

On Tuesday, July 19, it's the second annual "Favorite Flavors of Summer." A popular summer meal — pulled chicken barbeque sandwiches, cole slaw and watermelon — will be served. For dessert, watermelon granita will be featured. And there's a watermelon seed-spitting contest with prizes.

On Tuesday, Aug. 30, the summer market events wrap up with the third annual Tomato Centric celebration. A mystery chef — identity to be revealed later this summer — will prepare special dishes featuring the season's star fruit, the tomato.

All events are from noon to 2 p.m. on the Cox Hall Bridge. Market vendors will be there from noon until 5 p.m.
