Emory celebrates Veterans Day

Members of the Emory community who are serving or have served in the U.S. military will be recognized with a series of events Thursday, Nov. 10 and Friday, Nov. 11.

On Thursday, at 4 p.m., a retired military officer will give a speech on the significance of Veterans Day and leadership. It will be near the fountain on the Goizueta Business School’s Patterson Green.

Following that will be a 5K run in formation led by student leaders and the Georgia Army National Guard.

At the end of the run (route pending approval from Emory Police), participants are invited to join students at the law school, Goizueta and the Rollins School of Public Health for refreshments.

Special T-shirts will be available. Proceeds will go to The Wounded Warrior Project.

On Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, beginning at 7:45 a.m., the annual Veterans Day ceremony on the Quad will culminate with the raising of the flag promptly at 8 a.m. to the bugle call of reveille.

Local Marines, cadets from the Georgia Tech ROTC program, and current Emory veterans, in their dress service uniforms, will participate.

Sponsors include the Employee Council, the Interfraternity Council and the Intersorority Council, Campus Services, Emory Political Union, Young Democrats, College Republicans and the Veteran’s Club, a newly formed student organization that has applied for formal recognition.
