Emory boards approve next steps in hospital bed tower project
The Emory Healthcare, Woodruff Health Sciences and Emory University Boards have each approved the next tier of funding toward a planned Emory University Hospital tower expansion project, currently slated for completion in 2016.
The boards approved releasing $30 million dedicated to:
• The expansion and improvement of Emory's Clinic A drop-off/valet parking lot off Lowergate Drive.
• Funding to begin moving utility work in the proposed construction area, including relocation of the chillers, cooling towers and the emergency generators to sites outside of the construction zone.
• Necessary funding to enter into a formal contract with a design team, including architect, civil and structural engineers, an interior designer, and other necessary specialty design services.

Emory boards in June approved the site for the proposed nine-story, 210-bed Emory University Hospital bed tower, which will incorporate new operating rooms, ICU rooms, and an expanded emergency room. The new facility will be located on Clifton Road across from the hospital, in front of The Emory Clinic Building B.
Approximately 82 patient rooms in Emory University Hospital will be retired for a net addition of 128 patient rooms. As part of a comprehensive effort to enhance the patient experience, new pedestrian walkways will connect the existing hospital to the new bed tower, The Emory Clinic and parking facilities. Underground parking will also be included with the new tower.
