Employees get free flu shots at Kroger

Getting a flu shot is the most effective way to prevent influenza and Emory University employees are taking advantage of the opportunity to get the vaccine at no cost through a new partnership with Kroger Pharmacies.

Benefits-eligible faculty and staff can receive their flu shot free of charge at any Kroger Pharmacy by presenting a voucher and a photo I.D. Vouchers can be downloaded until Dec. 31 here. Non-benefits eligible employees can download a coupon there to receive a flu shot at a discounted price of $21.

"Over 2,000 flu shot vouchers have already been downloaded," says Melissa Morgan, interim manager of wellness programs for the Faculty Staff Assistance Program.  "But we really want to see that number increase.  Our goal is to get at least 3,500 employees vaccinated this year.  Through our new partnership with Kroger, our employees have much more flexibility as to when they can get their shots -- they can do it on their own time."

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) now recommends that everyone 6 months of age or older be vaccinated annually against influenza. It is important to get a flu shot every year because the seasonal flu vaccine is changed each year based on which strains of the influenza virus are spreading.  Find more information about the seasonal flu vaccine.
