"A Celebration for the Life of Rudolph P. Byrd" will be Thursday, Nov. 10.  The campus memorial service begins at 4 p.m. in Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church.

Dean of the Chapel Rev. Susan Henry-Crowe will preside.  A reception at the Schatten Gallery in Woodruff Library will immediately follow the service.

The Goodrich C. White Professor of American Studies and founding director of the James Weldon Johnson Institute died on Oct. 21 at age 58.

Byrd was a renowned scholar of African American Studies who dedicated his career to exploring issues of identity and was known for his service, leadership and institution-building.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the James Weldon Johnson Institute or the Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University Hospital. Memories can be shared on the "Remembering Dr. Rudolph P. Byrd" tribute blog.
