Memorial service for Fray Marshall is Dec. 10

Fray Marshall

Fray Marshall, chair of the Department of Urology in the School of Medicine, passed away Thursday, Dec. 1, at the age of 67 from cancer.

A memorial service will be held on campus Saturday, Dec. 10, at 2 p.m. at Glenn Memorial United Methodist Church.

During his 36-year career in the field of academic urology, Marshall co-authored more than 300 scientific papers and 62 book chapters, edited seven books, and delivered nearly 400 presentations.  He served on a number of editorial boards including the Journal of Urology, Urology, Uro-oncology and the International Journal of Urology.

He treated thousands of patients with kidney, prostate, bladder and many other urological diseases while at Emory for 13 years and Johns Hopkins University for 23 years.

Marshall contributed to innovations in the management and surgical treatment of large and small kidney tumors, and in the areas of urologic oncology, bladder reconstruction related to cancer, and less invasive prostate cancer surgery.

He helped Emory expand and strengthen clinical programs in prostate cancer, incontinence and cryosurgery, while also developing top programs in teaching and basic scientific research.

In March, the School of Medicine established the Fray F. Marshall Chair in Urology, which will be devoted to research and will help ensure his legacy of academic excellence and innovation.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to:

Marshall Make a Difference Fund, The Community Foundation for Greater Atlanta, 50 Hurt Plaza, Suite 449 Atlanta, GA 30303.
