Fall 2013/Spring 2014
Please refer to the Returning tab for Fall/Spring.
Students starting in Undergraduate (ABSN) program in Summer 2013 will need to submit two applications for financial aid. This includes the FAFSA application and the CSS PROFILE (if you wish to be considered for institutional aid):
- 2012-13 FAFSA to be considered for the Summer 2013 award period and the 2012-13 CSS PROFILE to be considered for institutional aid for the Summer 2013 award period (submit 2011 Student IRS transcripts if selected for verification).
- 2013-14 FAFSA to be considered for the Fall 2013/Spring 2014 award period and the 2013-14 CSS PROFILE to be considered for institutional aid (please refer to the Returning tab for more information on Fall 2013/Spring 2014).
At the time you begin your application for admission, you should begin the financial aid application process. If you wait until you are admitted to apply for financial aid, you will miss important deadlines. Completing the necessary applications and submitting the requested documents in advance will expedite the process once you are admitted.
Please keep in mind that school aid is awarded on a first-come, first-served basis to qualified applicants first, thereby increasing the advantages of applying for aid early. Later qualified applicants may not receive grants due to funding limitations.
Step 1A: Complete and submit the College Scholarship Service PROFILE application.
If you have not already done so, you will need to register with the College Scholarship Service and obtain a username and password. Click on PROFILE Online under "Pay For College" and follow the online instructions from there. Make sure you select Emory PROFILE code 5187 before exiting the registration process. This code is needed for Emory to receive your PROFILE results.
The PROFILE application requires a fee. PROFILE registrations are not transferable from year-to-year. You may pay by credit or debit card or electronic check when completing the online application. If you qualify for a fee waiver, it will be done online by the College Scholarship Service.
It takes about one week from the time you submit your PROFILE application for your information to be delivered electronically to Emory. Once you have completed your PROFILE, you will receive an online PROFILE acknowledgement. Review the acknowledgment carefully to make sure it is correct and complete.
Once you submit your PROFILE, you cannot revise your information online. Any changes must be sent directly to Emory.
Step 1B: Complete and submit the College Scholarship Service Non-Custodial PROFILE application if applicable.
Emory's primary objective in awarding need-based financial aid is to assist as many students as possible, taking into account possible sources of funding from the student, the custodial parent, and the non-custodial parent.
A Non-Custodial PROFILE Application is required of all students whose biological or adoptive parents are divorced or separated. In addition to the PROFILE, 2011 signed federal tax forms, including W2’s, 1099’s and all related schedules, along with any corporate and partnership returns that were submitted to the IRS, are required from the non-custodial parents and should be MAILED to the Office of Financial Aid. When submitting these documents, always write the student's full name, Emory ID or last four digits of the Social Security Number (if Emory ID is unknown) on each document.
If you indicate on the PROFILE that the marital status of the biological or adoptive parents is separated, divorced, or never married, the College Scholarship Service will email you instructions for completion of the online Non-Custodial Parent PROFILE Application which can then be forwarded to your non-custodial parent. The instructions will include the URL for the application, https://ncprofile.collegeboard.com, and the CSS ID and password needed for the non-custodial parent to log in. The Non-Custodial PROFILE Application requires a fee which may be paid by credit/debit card or electronic check when completing the application.
In some cases, Emory will waive the Non-Custodial PROFILE with the submission of the Non-Custodial Parent Waiver Petition. Instances when waivers are granted are in situations where abuse, a restraining order, incarceration, or total disability, etc. exists. The Waiver request form must be completed and submitted to this office accompanied by a letter of support from a third party who has knowledge of the family's situation regarding the non-custodial parent. The third party confirmation can come from someone speaking in an official capacity such as a counselor, a minister, a social caseworker, etc. Letters from neighbors or other family members are not sufficient.
Completion of the Non-Custodial Parent Waiver Petition does not automatically ensure that non-custodial information will be waived. We review each situation individually and make the most equitable decision possible with the information provided.
Step 2: Complete and submit the Free Application For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) using FAFSA On The Web.
Please complete the 2012-13 FAFSA which is used to determine Summer 2013 aid eligibility.
Be sure to include Emory’s School Code 001564 when completing the FAFSA. This code will ensure Emory receives your FAFSA information electronically from the federal processor.
Using FAFSA On The Web:
FAFSA On The Web is currently available for the 2012-12 aid year until June 30, 2013.
Emory strongly recommends using FAFSA on the Web as it offers you the option to use IRS data retrieval to transfer your and your parent’s 2011 tax return information directly to the FAFSA if your returns have been filed. Families that do not use the IRS Data Retrieval process may be required to submit an IRS tax transcript directly from the IRS to complete the federal verification process.
In order to transfer your data and to electronically sign your FAFSA application, you should register for a PIN (Personal Identification Number) at www.pin.ed.gov. The PIN is an electronic access code that serves as your identifier with the federal processor. The PIN allows you to apply online for federal aid, make corrections to your FAFSA and access your Student Aid Report (SAR).
The Department of Education’s Central Processing System will process your application in three to five days, provided you (and your parents’, if applicable) have provided electronic signatures using your PIN.
Step 3: After you apply, you will receive your Student Aid Report (SAR).
Your SAR reports all the information you gave on your FAFSA. If you filed using FAFSA on the Web and provided a valid email address when you applied, you will get an email within a few days from the federal processor. The email contains a secure link so you can access your SAR on the web. If you filed a paper FAFSA, you will receive a paper Student Aid Report (SAR) in a few weeks.
Review your SAR carefully to make sure it is correct and complete. If you need to make corrections to the SAR, you can make them online. Your SAR will contain instructions on how to make corrections.
Step 4A: MAIL TO IDOC copies of the STUDENT'S and PARENTS' signed 2011 federal tax forms (if applicable), including W2’s, 1099’s and all related schedules, along with any corporate and partnership returns that were submitted to the IRS.
Regarding Your Tax Returns: Provide signed copies of all tax documents, including W-2's, 1099's and all related schedules, along with any corporate and partnership returns that you submitted to the IRS. Computer-generated tax returns are acceptable if formatted line-by-line as a 1040. Forms 8453 and 8879 are not acceptable. Foreign taxes are required of non U.S. residents. Provide a copy of the foreign taxes, translated into English, converted into USD, and include the currency conversion rate used.
Step 4B: MAIL TO THE OFFICE OF FINANCIAL AID copies of the NON-CUSTODIAL PARENTS' signed 2011 federal tax forms (if applicable), including W2’s, 1099’s and all related schedules, along with any corporate and partnership returns that were submitted to the IRS.

Provide a copy of the foreign taxes, translated into English, converted into USD, and include the currency conversion rate used.
Step 5: Once you have been admitted to Emory and the requested FAFSA, PROFILE (if applicable) and tax return information (if applicable) are received, your file will be considered complete and will be reviewed by a Financial Aid Advisor.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The Nursing School is committed to meeting demonstrated need of all domestic applicants who attend Fall and Spring terms and meet published application deadlines. Students are required to submit financial aid application materials by all published deadlines to be considered for institutional aid. Funding for late applicants may be limited to federal grants or loans. Late applications will delay processing and award notifications.
The advisor reviewing your file will determine whether you are eligible to receive financial aid. During this review, you may be asked to submit additional documents. Please check OPUS frequently for outstanding items under your To Do List.
Step 6: After your file has been reviewed and your financial aid eligibility determined, you will receive an email notifying you that your award package is available.
Your award email will be sent to your email address marked as preferred within the OPUS Student Center at www.opus.emory.edu. Please Accept/Decline your individual awards as appropriate and follow all instructions to ensure you fully understand your aid package, as well as all terms, conditions, and disclosures.
