In 1908, at Howard University (DC), Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority
became America’s first Greek-letter organization established by Black
college women. Created to enrich the social and intellectual aspects of college
life by providing mental stimulation through interaction with friends and associates,
Alpha Kappa Alpha has grown to be the channel through which selected women
improve the socioeconomic conditions in their city, state, nation, and world.
Emory’s
Nu Alpha chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha was founded in 1979.
