Comparative Literature Program
Objectives: The Program in Comparative Literature offers students a rigorous curriculum in both the study of literatures across national traditions and in the theoretical grounding on which a critical exploration of issues in the reading, writing, and dissemination of texts are based. Students in the PhD program will focus on a comparison of substantial areas within at least two national literary traditions.
Additional Information: Students entering in full standing take 72 credit hours, normally consisting of 12 credit hours each semester (this is equivalent to three years of course work at the rate of three courses per semester). At present, graduate students in Comparative Literature are required to take only two designated courses: CPLT 750 Theories of Comparative Literature and CPLT 753W The Teaching of Literature.
