Economics Program
Objectives: The Emory Ph.D. program in Economics prepares students to become productive scholars and effective teachers in colleges and universities. Its graduates are also well prepared for research positions in private research organizations, industry, and government. Students first master microeconomics, macroeconomics and probability/statistics/econometrics and demonstrate their command of these subjects by passing core examinations. During the second and third years, they focus their studies in specialized fields. These include fields offered by the Department itself and interdisciplinary areas offered in cooperation with other departments and schools in the University.
Additional Information: Depending on the students' fields of interest, the exact sequencing and content of the program may vary. The required program for the Ph.D. is as follows: Sixteen courses and seminars, plus regular attendance at the Dissertation Workshop, and dissertation research; three core examinations; specialized field or area examinations; the dissertation proposal and completion and defense of the dissertation.
