Educational Studies
Degree(s): MA, MAT, MEd, DAST, PhD
Objectives: The Division of Educational Studies offers a full range of programs that includes the PhD in Educational Studies and the Master of Arts (MA) both with strong research orientations, the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) for individuals seeking both a master's degree and the initial teaching field certification, the Master of Education (MEd) and sixth-year Diploma for Advanced Study in Teaching (DAST) programs for practicing teachers, and the undergraduate Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Educational Studies. The Introduction to Teaching class provides an opportunity for Emory College students to consider teaching as a career as well as to learn about Emory’s MAT program.
Additional Information: The PhD program is designed to extend knowledge and develop skills for independent scholarly work and research in education. Progress toward attainment of those goals is demonstrated through course work, by the caliber of the work completed in the qualifying examinations and, ultimately, by the production of a dissertation. In conjunction with the Department of French and Italian, the Division also offers a joint PhD program in French and Educational Studies. Requirements are the same as those of the PhD in Educational Studies, with second language acquisition as the area of concentration.
