Jewish Studies Program

Objectives: The master's program in Jewish Studies at Emory University is a two-year graduate degree in Jewish studies. The JSMA offers vigorous intellectual training in the field of Jewish civilization, including the history, sacred texts, art, literature, archaeology, politics, languages and linguistics, law, economic activities and social institutions of the Jewish people. Broadly based and multidisciplinary, the program provides an excellent foundation for a variety of academic and professional careers.

The joint Juris Doctor/Master’s of Judaic Studies degree program allows students to combine training in law with graduate training in Jewish Studies.

Additional Information: The program requires a knowledge of Hebrew (equivalent to two years of college Hebrew as determined by an entrance examination), experience with traditional Jewish texts, and familiarity with Jewish civilization. Students are encouraged to fulfill their Hebrew prerequisite the summer before starting the program by participating in the Intensive Hebrew and Text Program in Israel or during their first year at Emory.
