To receive additional information about the Graduate School via email, complete the online inquiry form. If you are seeking information regarding specific programs, you should contact the programs of interest to you.

Application Process
All applicants are required to provide basic demographic and educational information, a statement of purpose, one set of official transcripts (to go directly to the department), three letters of recommendation, and official standardized test scores. In addition international applicants are required to submit certification of financial resources. For more information, see About the Online Application Process and Admissions Requirements. Applicants who are unable to use the online application process should read and follow the directions below for obtaining and using an application in PDF format.

Applicants who are unable to use the online application:
If you are unable to apply, online you may obtain an application in PDF format. You will need to print the application in order to complete it. Once you have completed it, you will mail parts of it to the program to which you are applying and other parts you will mail to the graduate school. For more information about using the PDF application, see About the Printable Application (PDF) Process.

Download the application and checklist in PDF format. If you apply using the PDF format application, the $50 application fee must be attached. Remember, however, DO NOT use the Financial Certificate for International Students that is included in the printable application. Click here to access a current form to use. To use the PDF form, you will need Adobe Acrobat. You may download a free copy of Adobe Acrobat here.

Deferred Admission
Students may request that admission be deferred for one year following initial admission. Departments may grant or deny requests for deferred admission.

Reactivation of Application
An applicant who is not admitted to a graduate program may request that his or her application be reactivated and reconsidered for the next admissions cycle. There is no additional application fee. Requests to reactivate must be in writing and should be directed to the graduate program. If more than one year has elapsed since the initial application, a new application, application fee, and supporting credentials must be submitted.

Non-Degree Seeking Students

Application Process for Non-Degree Seeking Students
If you have at least a bachelor's degree and wish to take courses at Emory but do not wish to earn a degree, you may apply for admission in special standing. In order to be considered, you must have an overall undergraduate grade point average of " C" or better.

The special standing application is one page and currently available in paper form only. The application, official transcripts, written permission from course instructors, and one-time, non-refundable $50 application fee must be received 30 days before the semester begins.

Special standing students must obtain written permission from course instructors before enrolling. Some departments require additional signatures. Special standing students should check with departments to determine specific restrictions on course enrollment. Faculty may grant permission by signing the special standing application, mailing or faxing a note on department letterhead to the Graduate School, or emailing permission to the Graduate School. Degree-seeking students have priority in course enrollment. A special standing student who wishes to enroll in a closed course must obtain explicit permission of the instructor to enroll in the course as an overload.

Students in special standing usually do not receive merit awards. Emory employees should consult the Human Resources policy regarding courtesy scholarships for eligibility information at least 60 days prior to registration. Application for a courtesy scholarship is independent of application for admission.

A student in special standing who later wishes to enroll in a degree program must submit a formal application for admission, including GRE scores, transcripts, letters of recommendation, and a non-refundable $50 application fee. Students admitted in special standing are not guaranteed subsequent admission to degree programs and should not expect preference in admission. Neither transfer of credits taken in special standing nor acceptance into a degree program is guaranteed. Departments enrolling special standing students in courses are not obligated to offer those students special consideration in admission to degree programs. Up to 12 semester hours of course work completed in special standing may be applied towards degree and residence requirements with the department's recommendation and the Dean's approval.
