Each year, RHA hosts a variety of events for the student body. The executive
board works with each of the hall councils to put on events that
will be of interest to the students. The following are some of the
annual signature events that RHA sponsors.
FALL FIESTA | EMORY CARES | LAST LECTURE | SUPERBOWL/NCAA FINAL FOUR PARTY | SANDWICH DRIVE | CRYSTAL APPLES | FIRST FRIDAYS
 |
Fall Fiesta is the first big event of the year, usually held in late September.
Each hall is charged to create a themed party for the students. Aside from
being a party, it is also a competition between the halls to encourage hall
spirit and cooperation. The hall with the most creative theme, decorations,
and student involvement wins extra funds for the year. Great themes from the
past include "Complex and the Chocolate Factory" to a Harry Potter themed
party. RHA Exec also hosts its own fiesta to bring together the campus, complete with
food, entertainment, and great socialization. In 2007, students were encouraged
to "Get Wild with RHA" at the petting zoo (lemurs & lynxs & pigs, oh my!)
and enjoy homemade BBQ ribs prepared by Emory's own Pasta John. See you
at the fiesta next year! |

In November, RHA teams up with other student groups to encourage Emory's students,
faculty, and staff to take one day for community service. Those involved
go out into the Atlanta community to do anything from planting trees to painting
houses to caring for children. |

The Last Lecture Series is an annual program sponsored by the Residence Life Office. Students across campus are asked to nominate their favorite and most influential faculty members to speak during the lecture series. The nominated faculty members are asked to speak to the population at a large discussing any topic they wish. The premise of the lecture is that it is their very last lecture to give. Some faculty, discuss topics in their discipline and others talk about life, teaching, and the world today. This event has become an Emory tradition, one in which students living on and off campus come to hear the honored last lectures of the year.

RHA hosts parties for two of the biggest sporting events of the year, the Superbowl
and the NCAA Final Four tournament. The games are shown on big screens, and
we provide the party favors. Oftentimes, there's a prize or two involved
just for coming. Join us this spring to cheer on your favorite team (outside
of the Eagles, of course). |

Starting in the spring of 2002, RHA has aligned with the Atlanta Food Bank to
help produce thousands of sandwiches for the needy. For an entire week, RHA
members and student volunteers work hard to make well-crafted sandwiches
that come complete with a card of kindness. More than 25,000 sandwiches
were made this past year. We hope to break 35,000 this year, so come on out
and a make a few sandwiches! |

The Residence Hall Association is honored to sponsor the "Crystal Apples." The 'apples' are the single most important accolade presented to faculty by
students for their exceptional teaching ability. Blue ribbon panels of
students select recipients in 8 categories. An elaborate dinner is held
in the spring
semester each year in which the honorees are feted and asked to speak in
individual acceptance remarks. The title accurately describes the award
presented to each faculty recipient, a crystal apple with stem that sits
proudly atop
a flat black onyx base.

Every first Friday of the month, Emory's a capella groups gather on the DUC terraces
to perform for the student body. RHA often sponsors this event and provides
drinks/snacks for the students. |
