The Braves have been a favorite in Atlanta sports in recent
years. They reside in the National League’s Eastern division along with the
New
York Mets, Philadelphia Phillies, Florida Marlins, and Montreal Expos. Home
games
are played at Turner Field, the stadium that held the opening ceremonies
of the 1996 Summer Olympic Games hosted by the city of Atlanta. In fact, the
torch
is still standing near the stadium, along with a segment of the outfield
wall from the old Atlanta Fulton County Stadium, the Braves’ home for 30 years.
With 11 straight division titles and appearances in the World Series during
many of the past few years, you are guaranteed an exciting night at the ballpark.

The Falcons are Atlanta’s
representative in the National Football League’s NFC West along with the
St. Louis Rams, San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, and New Orleans Saints. They play their home games at the Georgia Dome, which is located
downtown near the CNN Center and Phillips Arena. With a successful recent
history including the 1998 NFC Championship and an appearance in the Super
Bowl, the
Falcons expect to be very competitive in the next few years as they develop

The Thrashers are Atlanta’s newest major league sports team,
playing hockey in the Southeast Division of the NHL’s Eastern Conference
along with
the Carolina Hurricanes, Florida Panthers, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Washington
Capitals. The Thrashers began play in the 1999-2000 season, and they
are still getting off the ground. However, they have a bright future. The Thrashers
play
their home games in the brand new, state-of-the-art Phillips Arena downtown

Sharing Phillips Arena with the Thrashers are the Hawks,
Atlanta’s basketball team. The Hawks play in the Central Division of
the NBA’s Eastern Division, along with teams from Chicago, Charlotte,

The Augusta National Golf Club is located just a few
hours East of Atlanta
in Augusta, GA. This famous course is the home of the Masters Golf
Tournament,
one of golf’s four major tournaments during the year. Members are
able to watch the Masters tournament and even play the course when the tournament
is not
taking place. If you have the opportunity to visit this course, be
sure to
take advantage of it as most people are not granted access to the
course.

Atlanta Beat play soccer in the WUSA Women’s Professional Soccer League. Their home games
are played at Herndon Stadium, on the campus of Morris Brown College

located just a few miles south of the metro area should satisfy
your needs.
With two Winston
Cup races, including the season-ending Napa 500, you have the

and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. racing head-to-head. Be sure to arrive

Atlanta’s second best university
is home to the metro area’s best college athletics. The
Yellow Jackets
recently
appeared
in
the College World Series for baseball, and they consistently
compete for the top spot in the ACC Football standings,
with their most
recent national
championship

those seeking Southeastern Conference action, the Georgia
Bulldogs play in Athens, GA, which is just a short drive (about 90 minutes
