Fitness Classes

Summer Semester 2009

Fitness classes will begin on Monday, May 18, 2009 and run through Saturday, August 8, 2009. Fitness classes will be FREE from Monday, May 18, 2009 through Saturday, May 23, 2009. Classes will not be held on Memorial Day - Monday, May 25 and Independence Day - Saturday, July 4.

Get Fit Student Activity & Academic Center Passes™ :: These passes are available to to only members of the facility. These passes do not have to be used at consecutive classes and may be used throughout the entire academic year. The Student Activity & Academic Center will not replace or refund a lost or stolen Get Fit Pass.

Member: 05-punch card: $18.00 ($3.60 per class)
Member: 10-punch card: $35.00 ($3.50 per class)
Non-Member: 05-punch card: $43.00 (includes $5.00 guest fee)
Non-Member: 10-punch card: $85.00 (includes $5.00 guest fee)

Single Student Activity & Academic Center Passes™ :: These passes are available to to members and non-members of the facility. Single class passes are available for and individual class and are non-refundable. They must be purchased on the day of the scheduled fitness class.

Members: $4.00
Non-Members: $9.00 (this includes the $5.00 guest fee)
Classes Offered

Yoga - All Levels :: Mondays 6:00 PM - 6:50 PM
Class Limit: 25
Class Requirements: Yoga Mat (can be purchased at the Information Desk for $12.00)
Class Description: A rejuvenating practice emphasizing breath work, floor work, stretching and longer holds. Appropriate for beginners and more advanced students seeking stress reduction.

Morning Crunch :: Mondays 6:00 AM - 6:50 PM & Thursdays 6:00AM - 6:50AM
Class Limit: 25
Class Description: Morning crunch is a fitness class designed to improve both cardiovascular endurance and muscular strength through a boot camp style workout.  This class will meet outside on the SAAC field and all exercises will be performed using your own body weight as resistance.  All fitness level are invited as exercises can be modified to suit individual needs.

Nia :: Tuesdays 6:00 PM - 6:50 PM
Class Limit: 25
Class Description: Nia simultaneously addresses the body, mind, emotions, and spirit, and puts them on the “same page” using music, movement and personal expression to integrate one’s neurology (including the mind, emotions, and spirit) with one’s outer body, or musculature. To achieve this whole-being integration, Nia addresses the whole person using a comprehensive, holistic exercise approach designed with a combination of nine classic movement forms.

Oxygen :: Wednesdays 6:00 PM - 6:50 PM
Class Limit: 25
Class Description: Depending on the weather, this is an outdoor class that involves walking, jogging, biking (provided by Bike Emory) or plyometric drills. Get to know your campus! Bring your own trails! This class will conclude with 15 minute abs indoors.

Intermediate Yoga :: Wednesdays 7:00 PM - 7:50 PM
Class Limit: 25
Class Requirements: Yoga Mat (can be purchased at the Information Desk for $12.00)
Class Description: Energetic flowing sequences including standing and balancing postures as well as floor work and meditation. All levels.

Build, Sweat, Smile :: Wednesdays 5:00 PM - 5:50 PM
Class Limit: 25
Class Description:
Start by pumping your muscles with hand weights, take it to a spin or jog outside, and end it with a smile as we cool it down.
This class is a moderate to high intensity that will leave you feeling rejuvenated and ready for the next!

Zumba Latin Dance :: Thursdays 6:00 PM - 6:50 PM
Class Limit: 25
Class Description: Zumba fuses hypnotic musical rhythms and tantalizing moves to create a dynamic workout system designed to be FUN and EASY TO DO! Zumba blends the basic steps from Latin and world dance with fitness moves to create a workout that is like nothing else. The routines feature interval training sessions where fast and slow rhythms and resistance training are combined to tone and sculpt your body while burning fat. Add some Latin flavor and International zest into the mix and you've got ZUMBA!

Pilates :: Saturdays 10:00 AM - 10:50 AM
Class Limit: 25
Class Requirements: Yoga Mat (can be purchased at the Information Desk for $12.00)
Class Description: Beginner Mat Class is the very foundation of the Pilates method. This class consists of very gentle exercises done on a mat in either a sitting or lying down position. The primary focus is on awareness of the spine, proper breathing, core strength and flexibility. The outcome of Pilates training is a balanced body which is strong and supple, flat stomach, balanced legs, and a strong back. This class is appropriate for those discovering Pilates for the first time, as well as those who wish to immerse themselves in the basics of the technique.
