H105 – Luther M. Smith (1867-1871)
Luther M. Smith was the first Emory College alumnus to serve as its president. A native of Oglethorpe County, GA, he was a member of the class of 1848. Smith encouraged the growth and development of the campus religious life and emphasized the “character-building” nature of Emory College.

In a curious coincidence, Luther Smith was succeeded as president of Emory College by Osborn L. Smith, who was not related to President Smith.

The Smith apartment is located in the Graduate Residential Center. This spacious two bedroom, two and 1⁄2 bath apartment is 1,154 square feet in size.
