Residence Hall Director (RHD) Fellows work with Residence Life and Housing staff members and the hall residents to facilitate an environment within the residence hall that will contribute to the intellectual, social, physical, moral, and cultural development of the students. The RHD-Fellow articulates to the students the philosophy and policies of the Office of Residence Life and Housing, other Campus Life Departments, the College, and other departments and divisions within the University and, in turn, represents and presents the needs of the students to the administration. This is a position of leadership, trust, and honor, and contributes significantly to the personal growth and development of the staff member and his/her paraprofessional staff and hall residents.
Fellows have a unique experience. They are employed by the Office of Residence Life and Housing, and also work for 20 hours a week in another Campus Life or university department. Fellowships in 2015-16 included: Emory Alumni Association, Office of Health Promotion, Office of international student life, Sorority and Fraternity Life, Residence Life, the Career Center, and Conference Services. Fellowship site placement does not dictate the residence hall Fellows supervise.
All applicants must be graduating seniors of Emory University, May 2016, and may not be enrolled as a full-time student in a graduate program during 2016-17.
All candidates who are selected for the RHD Fellow position must be available to begin employment in July 2016 for staff training activities, and commit to the entire academic calendar through May 2017.
