Summer Operations Assistant

 

Summer Operations Assistants report to the Coordinator of Housing Operations and the Assistant Director of University Conferences. SOAs perform a variety of duties to assist the daily operations of residential facilities. These positions will challenge the abilities of the chosen candidates and offer them valuable business skills in communication and organization, as well as a basic understanding of facilities management. Although weekly schedules may vary, SOAs will work approximately 10 hours per week in and around the residence halls on central and Clairmont Campuses. In addition, SOAs will serve on the on-call rotation.

The ideal candidate for this position should be organized, dependable, mature, responsible, and have strong administrative skills. Summer staff members must be able to function effectively as both a leader and a member of a team consisting of facilities and conferences staff. Summer staff members must be able to work independently, multi-task, and accept constructive feedback. Work conditions will require that summer staff members be able to endure the elements of the summer and put forth some physical exercise (walking stairs, light lifting, etc.)

Employment Dates

Dates of employment for Summer 2013 are from Wednesday, May 15, 2013 through Saturday, August 17, 2013. There may be optional, hourly paid shift work available outside of these dates.

Summer Operations Assistants may take one four-day vacation during the summer. SOAs must submit vacation requests by June 5, 2013.

Remuneration

From May 15 through August 17, SOAs will receive housing in an apartment at Clairmont Campus in exchange for their 10 hours per week of work and serving on the on-call rotation. Please note that during this time period, there is no hourly compensation for these shifts other than free housing.

During potential hourly shifts, SOAs will be paid at a rate of $8.50/hour for each shift they work.

Summer housing assignments will end on approximately August 17, 2013. At this time, we will transition you to your fall on-campus housing assignment (if applicable) or you will need to move off-campus if you will not be living on-campus for the fall semester.
