Pre-College Residence Hall Director
The Pre-College Residence Hall Director reports directly to the Area Director. The Office of Residence Life & Housing strives to combine a fun and enjoyable working environment with significant learning and growth opportunities, as well as a competitive benefits package.
The Office of Residence Life & Housing will hire one (1) Residence Hall Director for the Pre-College Program.

Responsibilities
Responsibilities shall include but are not limited to:
- Take on an integral role in the training of Pre-College Resident Advisors. The RHD will be responsible for a number of areas during training, including the explanation of some functional areas, as well as the planning of staff development and team-building activities.
- Supervise a team of ten Resident Advisors, including:
- Planning, attending, and facilitating weekly staff meetings
- Advising RAs with individual responsibilities
- Coordinating staff development events
- Completing end-of-summer evaluation with each RA
- Be a visible and accessible presence in the residence hall. This includes eating meals with the students and staff, visiting classes, leading evening and weekend activities, etc.
- Maintain good communication and relations with the maintenance, custodial, and Conferences staff.
- Collect and approve all shift requests and time-off requests from the RA staff.
- Interact with pre-college students to ensure that their needs are being met by their RAs. This includes being present at both check-ins and check-outs to facilitate smooth transitions in and out of Emory for students.
- Work creatively to troubleshoot and solve problems as they arise.
- Complete all on-call responsibilities.
- On-site supervision of various events associated with the pre-college program.
- Participate in interviewing and hiring a staff of ten Resident Advisors.
- Schedule shifts for up to ten Resident Advisors on a weekly basis, create a weekly on-call schedule for the RAs, and plan number of staff needed at all pre-college events.
- Organize and oversee the details of program opening and closing, including supervision of pre- and post-term residence hall inspections, damage assessments, keys, roommate assignments, etc.
- Enforce all program rules and ensure safety of students and staff; report all violations systematically according to procedures and handle all medical problems immediately.
- Act as a primary contact with parents when deemed appropriate by the Area Director.
- Work with staff to develop a variety of student activities. Schedule, organize, and lead all activities and excursions. This may include purchasing tickets for events, arranging transportation, and reserving meeting spaces.
- Create a weekly on-call schedule for the RAs.
- Monitor the physical condition of the residence hall, including reporting emergency maintenance situations to the appropriate person(s).
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Previous experience as an Emory Pre-College RA, Emory graduate student RHD or RHD-Fellow strongly preferred.
- Ability to balance multiple responsibilities and ongoing programs.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrable skills in detail management and assertiveness.
- Experience in working in on-call situations, and the ability to thrive in a constantly changing work environment.
- Familiarity with Emory’s residential facilities is helpful but not required.
- Experience with Windows operating system, as well as typing, word processing, database, and organizational skills.
- Strong supervisory and/or management experience, especially with college-aged students.
- A valid driver's license. Drivers must be approved to drive University vehicles by the Risk Management Division (training will be provided).

Employment Dates
Employment begins May 20, 2013 and ends August 17, 2013. From the beginning of employment until Pre-College RA training on June 24, the successful candidate will spend 30 hours a week on programmatic set up. Beginning Monday, June 24, the candidate should then expect to spend a significant amount of time working nights, weekends, and holidays.

Remuneration
A furnished, private room on central campus and a meal plan during the pre-college sessions. You must live in this room to be available for on-call duties and other responsiblities. If needed, on-campus housing can be rranged for the entirety of the summer, beginning May 14 until the last date of employment. The Pre-College RHD will receive a $3,900 stipend, paid in three monthly installments (June, July, and August).
