Residence Hall Directors work with Residence Life & Housing staff members and the hall residents to facilitate an environment that will contribute to the intellectual, social, physical, moral, and cultural development of the students. The Residence Hall Director articulates to the students the philosophy and policies of the Office of Residence Life & Housing, other Campus Life Departments, the College, and other Departments and Divisions within the University and, in turn, represents and presents the needs of the students to the administration. The Residence Hall Director role is one of leadership, trust, and honor and contributes significantly to the personal growth and development of the staff member and his/her paraprofessional staff and hall residents.
All applicants for the Residence Hall Director positions with the Office of Residence Life & Housing at Emory University must have received a minimum of a Bachelor’s degree from a four year college and must be enrolled as a full-time student in an Emory graduate program while employed.
Preference for Residence Hall Director positions will be given to applicants with experience as a Resident Advisor (RA) and/or with a Residence Hall Association (RHA). Other undergraduate experience or involvement with programming and student groups may be sufficient.
Candidates who are available to work for an academic year (July through May) will be given preference. A limited number of summer positions are available with assignment priority given to experienced returning staff members.
Currently, the compensation and benefits package for Residence Hall Director position includes the following:
All RHDs are required to attend fall staff training in July, prior to the opening of school in August. This year’s training is set to begin on Friday, July 29, 2011 and will continue through Monday, August 8, 2011. RHDs will assist with SRA, RA, and SA training, which will extend from August 9, 2011 to August 18, 2011.
