There are certain milestones that are crucial to your academic career. One of these is choosing a major; all second-year students are required by Emory College to declare a majore before the close of their second year. Requirement aside, there are also practical benefits: declaring a major gives you access to the more advanced courses associated with that department and connects you with a major advisor. Whatever major you choose should reflect your skills, interests, and academic/career goals.

Meeting the Challenge

To meet this challenge, you will need to complete and submit the necessary paperwork that is required to officially declare your major by contacting that specific department. The contact information for most departments related to Emory College can be found here.

What comes next?

Once you have declared your major, you have set yourself up to plot your academic course through most of your college career.

Meet with an advisor to discuss new options. You now have a major advisor and more tools you can use to connect with career advisors.
Get to know your department. By declaring a major, you now have better access to departmental staff and faculty members.
Find out about new opportunities. Declaring a major also gives you better access to internships, and gives you a better sense of what study abroad programs would help you with your course of study.
• Review the department's course list. Go through the new high-level classes that are now available to you and start thinking about what classes you will need (or will want) to take over the next few years.
