A resume is essential when you apply for internships, jobs, and other activities. It lists your experiences, achievements, and involvement. A resume communicates to others who you are and what you can offer their organization. By writing a resume now, it will be easier to update it as you join more organizations and prepare to apply for something in the future. Also, it's wise to seek feedback on your resume.
Meeting the Challenge
Writing a resume and submitting it to be reviewed by an advisor in the Career Center can complete this requirement.
Helpful Resources
The Career Center is your primary source on campus for professional advice and resume building. However, other resources may also be helpful:
• Online resume-building guides
• Trusted faculty, staff, or other mentors
• People you know who work in the field in which you are interested
What comes next?
Having a resume ready to go can open up a great number of opportunities.
• Use your resume when you apply for new opportunities. Submitting a resume is useful (and sometiems required!) for internships, fellowships, and study abroad opportunities.
• Bringing a resume to an advising session may help your advisor suggest programs or opportunities you can take advantage of.
• Reflect at how you look on paper. Having all your skills laid out on paper can help you evaluate areas where you are lacking in experience and may help you think of activities that can give you the valuable skills you need.
• Build professional relationships. Bringing copies of a well-critiqued resume to a job fair or networking event can more quickly connect you with potential jobs or people of interest.
