Well now kids...it has sure been a while. Let me see-I think the semester break was the last major event that happened between our last conversation and now (or rather my last conversation with myself if you think of it). In as few words as possible, I will now attempt to explain to you my break: sleep, eat, beach, Christmas, read (just a bit), sleep (average was 11 to 12 hours/night), eat more (especially around Christmas and new year), pool...........I have a tough life, I wont lie. If you are aware that my state of birth is PA, and are wondering where the beach is in PA, well, I wasn't in PA. I was in my house in Florida. I believe the average temperature there was, oh say, 75. Not too bad. By the way, if I am making you jealous or ansie-in-the-pantsy, and there is no beach or pool around you, then, too bad. :) Anywho, for the most part I was actually quite productive over the break. I was able to do some school reading, do some applying, and check learnlink just about everyday...cause seriously, if you go to Emory, you come down with a very rare and incurable disease which makes accessing learnlink involuntary and impulsive...like a bad habit. So anyway, break was quite boring. After said break, which by all standards of national and accepted measurements was way too short, my family and I drove back to Emory. Not a big deal. So I get back, all is fine and dandy, and suddenly the weather which I was quite comfortable in (in the 60s to 70s) suddenly, like a slap in the face, turns cold. Now mind you I am quite used to the cold, and therefore do not complain much, but for the life of me (and throughout my 4 years here) I will NEVER understand Atlanta weather. There are many things I could equate the quickly changing and never steady weather of Atlanta to, but for the sake of any younger readers, I shall abstain. What I am trying to say is the weather here can be summarized as follows...and quite literally this trend is day to day: cold, cool, chilly, hot, cold, warm, rain, rain, damp, sunny but cool, about to snow, about to hail, hail, windy and cool, very windy and cool.....what the [insert swear word of choice here]!!!!!! I guess as a native to the North, I assumed the words South and warm went together. But never mind.
So here I am, back in the ATL (as the natives call it), taking my classes, doing work, relaxing a bit (but not too much). I recently had dinner with a dean from our Medical School...very nice and cool guy. Learned a lot from him, some of which I plan on implementing immediately. The dinner was in a restaurant called 'Fritti', which is of Italian cuisine. I was suspicious at first, as I am whenever I go to any Italian restaurant. As a product of Italian upbringing, Italian just doesn't taste the same in Italian-American restaurant (most of which are a disgrace to the Italian name, but that is another story). Long story short, I sit down, we order some bruschetta and we each have a personal Neapolitan-style pizza (which is setting yourself up for failure by claiming this type of pizza, as Naples is the birthplace). After some eyeing, I finally dive in. Both the bruschetta and pizza are quite good, well prepared, the right combination of flavor, and of course that fresh, made-with-love taste I am well acquainted to. In all I would give 'Fritti' a 10/10...which includes their use of authentic Italian cuisine, some authentic Italian staff, and authentic Italian taste in a country surrounded by fakes. Oh, and did I mention the zuppa di cioccolata, which was quite literally, chocolate soup. Too rich for my taste, so I only had a sip. I am thinking I should turn this blog thing into some lucrative business in food criticism. In addition, I also received my acceptance letter to be a Residential Advisor (RA) for next fall. Very exciting, especially since my butt gets to stay where I am...in Woodruff. This means many things, like for instance, I'll be a Woodruff Veteran, and more SYE, which means you all get more of me (but there never is enough, so why do I even ask). So, I guess this is a good place to start with some propaganda: we have had a Super Smash tournament here (a video game), we are going to have the career center visit for some resume building, faculty dinner, info sessions for the Business school and housing, and that is all I can think of right now. Anyway, I am going to sign out, as I have a missed episode of 24 to attend to, and if you are a fan, 24 takes precedent.
