Second-year students are encouraged to demonstrate active participation and good citizenship in the Emory community and beyond. Natural ties exist with sororities and fraternities, as well as student organizations, government, and programming. Students will be encouraged to pursue campus roles of trust and skill development, such as campus tour guide, orientation leader, resident advisor, University Campus Life Intern Program (UCLIP) interns, Outdoor Emory leaders, and multicultural mentors. Training and education will be offered in the areas of leadership and ethics.

Continuing in the tradition of Emory's first year experience, second-year students will be encouraged to create and participate in their communities. Second-year students may assist residence life staff with program presentations, participate in Residence Hall Association hall government, and institute their own contributions to the Woodruff, second-year, and larger Emory communities.
