What can an Academic Advisor do for you?

Academic Advisors in the Office for Undergraduate Education (OUE) work closely with students to provide individual academic advising and explain academic policies. We can provide intensive advising support through regular contact with their advisees or meet with students on just a few occasions.

Our mission is to help students create meaningful academic plans and maximize their academic success. To accomplish this, advisors help students explore departments of interest, select a specific academic major, discuss career options that relate to their majors, and develop plans of study appropriate for meeting educational goals. We also refer students to other campus offices for assistance in academic, personal, and career advising.

OUE offices are located in White Hall 300, Few Hall Suite 117, and Woodruff Residential Center Suite 337.

When should you meet with an academic advisor?

• When you want to know if you're on track to graduate.
• When you want to know which GERs you have yet to fulfill.
• When you are not sure which classes to take.
• When you have questions about choosing, declaring or changing majors and minors.
• When you want to plan a schedule for the next semester.
• When you have questions about the registration process or your registration appointment.
• When you have questions about anything on campus from "How to add or drop classes" to "Should I take a class for a grade or Satisfactory/Unsatisfactory?"
• When you are having academic difficulties.
• When you need someone to talk to about personal issues that may affect your academic life as well.
• When you've been absent from class and need to talk to someone about it.

OUE, along with other departments and SYE partners, offer several advising programs for second-year students.

Program Offerings

"Coffee Hours" and "Advice and a Slice"
Academic advisors make themselves available over coffee or pizza (depending on the program). Students can connect with advisors to ask for academic advice, raise other questions, or simply build relationships with the advising staff.

Advising Office Hours
Advisors hold regular office hours when they are available on a first-come first-serve basis to offer guidance and answer questions.

CIPA Drop-In Hours
The Center for International Programs Abroad (CIPA) offers drop-in hours to work with students interested in study abroad opportunities. They can offer guidance and advice on what programs to consider and what academic work still needs to be done before a study abroad program is advisable.

Volunteer Emory
Volunteer Emory (VE) staffs informational tables to talk with students about volunteering and service opportunities. VE connects students and the groups they may represent with service opportunities and nonprofit organizations in the Atlanta area who would value their time and assistance.
