About First Year at Emory
Emory University has a highly successful first year program. The First Year at Emory program, designed for first-year students living in the residence halls at Emory, has multiple components to assist students in their transition to Emory and the greater Atlanta area. University staff members, including many from Campus Life, assist with the Pre-major Advising Connections at Emory (PACE) program for entering students. First-year students also participate in New Student Orientation.
Residence Life & Housing provides unique resources to first-year students through the residence halls. Living-Learning Communities have been established in many of the first-year halls, giving each hall community a common theme to focus on as part of their first-year experience. Among them are: Citizenship, Living Green, Global Cultures, and Leadership Emory.
Additionally, specific residence hall programs target first-year students as they experience and become part of the campus community. Some of these programs include: opening and Move-In activities, SongFest, Freshman Semiformal, the annual Jimmy Carter Town Hall Meeting (sponsored by Campus Life), spring sorority & fraternity recruitment, and floor & hall programs.
Finally, the hall staff in first-year buildings is tailored to meet the needs of first-year students. In addition to the resident advisor, two sophomore advisors assist with programming, adjustment, and community building on each floor of first-year students. Sophomore Advisors become valuable friends and mentors to the residents on their hall.
